In Oleshky, Ukraine, thousands of people are trapped in territory occupied and cut off by Russia, without regular access to food and medicine. The Russian occupation and the presence of mined areas make escape extremely dangerous: those who stay risk starving to death, while those who try to leave risk their lives.

In the face of this emergency, Pina Picierno, Vice-President of the European Parliament, has announced a hunger strike to draw international attention to the situation and to call for immediate action.

Spazio Pubblico is appealing to associations, citizens, and national and local institutions to join this major non-violent action. We are calling for a humanitarian truce, for food and medicine to be allowed into the city, and for civilians who wish to leave to be evacuated safely.

Through this mobilisation, we want to support the efforts of Pope Leo XIV and of all those who, at this very moment, are doing everything possible to prevent a humanitarian tragedy of enormous proportions. Oleshky must not be forgotten: immediate action is needed to save lives.
