About us
The values that guide us, the ideas that bring us together, the future we want to build
Spazio Pubblico was born as an open space for discussion, participation, and vision. A collective journey founded on shared values, concrete ideas, and the desire to jointly build a policy that is more people-centered, more European, and more forward-looking.
Italy is standing still. Europe is at a crossroads. The time for half measures is over.
We are women and men shaped by different reformist traditions and democratic experiences. What brings us together is neither a legacy political label nor a pre-defined partisan identity. What unites us is a shared sense of urgency: to get Italy moving again and to help build a Europe capable of meeting the challenges of our time.
We chose the name Spazio Pubblico because we believe politics must once again become a place – not a permanent confrontation, not a spectacle, not a battle of identities. A place where ideas are debated, solutions are developed and decisions are made. A place removed from the pursuit of the most immediate emotions, from the erosion of ethics and rational thought, and from the triumph of post-truth over facts.
Open. Pluralistic. Transnational.
On Europe, there can be no compromise.
We want a European Union that is more competitive, more secure and democratically stronger. A Union capable of speaking with one voice and reducing its technological, energy and industrial dependencies.
We stand with Ukraine – its people, its resistance and its legitimate government – because the future of freedom and security in Europe is also being shaped in Kyiv. And we want a Europe with the strength and credibility to uphold international law and contribute to stability, beginning with the Mediterranean and the Middle East.
On freedom, we do not step back.
Economic freedom, civil liberties and individual rights are not in conflict; they are part of the same belief in human potential and individual responsibility. We want growth, and we want fairness within the social welfare system. We want a justice system that is independent of both political influence and vested interests. We want to free Italy from a culture that limits opportunities through stereotypes and discrimination, and from an economy held back by entrenched interests too often justified in the name of pragmatism.
We hold politics to a higher standard.
Public debate has become hostage to polarization, algorithm-driven dynamics and a political culture that too often prioritizes confrontation over solutions. The challenges before us – from the green transition to artificial intelligence, from inequality to the defence of liberal democracies against new forms of authoritarianism – require long-term thinking, broad alliances and the courage to govern. They demand the exact opposite of the tribalism and narrow particularism that fuel populist polarization, whether on the right or on the left.
Spazio Pubblico was created to be that response.
Not a platform, but a project.
Not another political microcosm, but a community that takes the future seriously.
